Final Cut

Reflection
Looking at this class, it seems crazy to me that this semester is already
over. My first semester in college is over, and honestly I already wish I would
have done some things differently. Looking at the project, I wish the
class wasn't o centered on a group project for a final grade, as group projects
don't show someone's learning or even overall effort. My project about the ice
hockey team was quite enjoyable, however. It was very hard to get interviews with
people and get them to draw out there answers; most if the time they would give
a few word answers and that's really hard to work with when trying to construct
a documentary about it. Getting over the troubles of that, I can say I am very
proud of my rivalry section of the documentary, highlighting all the
intensities of the Louisville game. If I could change one thing about the
documentary, I would change to interview someone else other than Corey the
senior; he doesn't help with any of the structure, and I had to struggle to fit
him in in most places. I was responsible for a lot in the project, taking over
as the coordinator and doing a lot of editing, putting the video together and
setting up all the times to work. I don't think I could have done too much more
without making it a solo project. I contributed a fair amount of work for
sure.
Looking at the class holistically there is a brighter light shining for me. I enjoyed this class very much; using the blog posts is way better than having to write 4 essays, as we got to explore interesting subject matter that is real-world, and not curriculum based only. I do think I have a different thinking now, and I do think that I can analyze things with more detail now. The class speaking was nerve wrecking, but I appreciate that you keep the videos so I can see how silly I look up on stage, I kept that image in my head for the next time I performed. I think it helped, as I don't think I was talking as fast as I did the first time.
The teaching style you employed was effective, I think more lectures (something to make us take notes on) would make it a little better. Sometimes when you were up in the front of the class talking about one of the videos we were supposed to watch, I felt a little disinterested if the subject wasn't interesting itself, so my mind wandered. A lengthier or more descriptive lecture or rubrics for projects is my only suggestion.
All in all, I loved this class, I made actual friends that I hope to keep all of college and I learned some things that will help me going forward, in the real world.

Ice hockey story board
Story Board:
(Possible Timelapse)
(Narrative throughout)
Show the outside of the Ice center
Show the stands in the beginning
Show the players getting ready (shots of gearing up, warming
up, etc)
Show an interview about the season, starting, and how fun it
is
(time lapse of the zamboney)
Show players getting ready and skate out on the ice
Have the face off in the beginning, and start with explosive
music
Continue with more action shots, game footage
Break with another interview and more narrative
Show shots of the players possibly practicing outside of the
rink in a more casual environment
Incorporate some workout footage
More slow progression with low intensity footage
More action footage with explosive music
End with a question of what ifs? If you all win, if you
could play anywhere, if you were a d1 team, this will illicit the most creative
responses and see if the team has a consensus answer or not.
Details:
Time lapse of outside of the rink, long shot. This shows how
the line forms, and the atmosphere heading into each game is like.
Time lapse of the zamboney, longshot (Shows he
transformation of the ice)
Shots of the stands will include medium and close shots,
(possibly extreme close-up to show facial expressions i.e. “game faces”) maybe
a few long shots to show a packed crowd
Action shots will be mainly medium shots with some tracking
shots (This will get a feel of he movement of the players, and the action of
the game)
Practicing shots will be the same as the other game time
action shots (Will show close up also to see the sweat in order to relay how
intense the workouts are on the player, thus giving representation of the work
they put in to it every day)
Workout footage and the footage of players getting ready
will be mainly close ups and extreme close ups with some medium shots
The interviews will be mainly a close up or a long shot,
depending on if we want to convey emotion more, sternness, or the passion of which
the player is speaking.
The interviews will be shot this way also to convey that the
hockey players are all people who strive for the same thing.
The interview with a head of the team will be met with high
emotion, as this will be to get a fiery response from the listeners.
